Former H.O.T member Tony An congratulated idol group TEEN TOP on their K-Chart win.
The singer wrote via his Twitter page on the 3rd, “I want to sincerely congratulate TEEN TOP on their win today. Congratulations on your win, TEEN TOP!!!”

Their #1 win on KBS 2TV‘s ‘Music Bank‘ with “Going Crazy“ on February 3rd was the first for the boys who debuted in 2010.

Tony continued, “Andy and I talked a lot about the production of this group when we were in the military. Although I’m a senior to Andy in both the entertainment industry and also in the military, it’s good to see Andy being successful.”

Shinhwa‘s Andy responded to Tony’s tweet writing, “I hope that the idols you create and debut one day will be successful too.”

It’s good to see fellow artists supporting each other. Congratulations once again to TEEN TOP!

Moon Hee Joon Has No Idea What Bill Gates Looks Like

Moon Hee Joon had his intelligence questioned on the February 3 episode of jTBC “Idol Premiere.” The former H.O.T member appeared alongside of ex-G.O.D member Son Ho Young for an on-the-spot quiz there they had to name the person appearing on the screen.

The first person to appear was Bill Gates, the former CEO and current chairman of Microsoft. Bill Gates’ picture showed up next to Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt, and Moon Hee Joon was asked to pick the photo of the Microsoft founder. However, Moon Hee Joon just gave a confused look and said, “I swear to God I have no idea what he (Bill Gates) looks like.” Son Ho Young, likewise, said he knows who he is but doesn’t know his face.

Moon Hee Joon continued, “His shirt looks expensive,” and randomly picked Bill Gates’ picture. Son Ho Young also followed Moon Hee Joon, and ended up getting the correct answer without knowing who he was.
Meanwhile, Moon Hee Joon couldn’t name the popular cartoonist Kang Pool, who has a cult-like following in Korea. He looked perplexed and just repeated, “Kang Pool? What is it about? Is it a person’s name?”

JTBC‘s ‘Idol Quiz Show – 1st Generation Idols’ Special‘ saw an interesting pitch from H.O.T‘s Moon Hee Jun to former g.o.d member, Son Ho Young.

The two were quite competitive throughout the show as they contended for victory. In order to spice things up even further, Moon Hee Jun put something quite interesting on the line.

The former leader of H.O.T. turned to Son Ho Young and proposed, “Whoever wins [this competition] needs to regroup their old team.” Son Ho Young accepted, and the studio erupted with cheers over this exciting bet.

Who will win the competition and revive their old group?

Korean singer Se7en held an event celebrating his comeback album ‘Somebody Else’ (released on 18th January) on the 28th and 29th January in Tokyo and Osaka. The two events gathered 7000 fans. Se7en shook the hands of each fan one by one, took time to take photos with each fan one by one and shared the joy of making a comeback with his fans.

Se7en debuted in Japan in 2005 with single ‘Hikari’ and was active for 3 years, Last year in July when Avex and YG combined to form AVEX, Se7en attended the press conference and announced that he would be making a comeback in Japan. His mini album ‘Somebody Else’, released after a 4 year hiatus in Japan entered the weekly Oricon chart at No.13.

Former H.O.T member Tony An to make a comeback in a multi-member group

Solo artist Tony An announced that he would be returning to the music scene in a multi-member group, but he is keeping silent in regards to the details, evoking more curiosity amongst the public.

His representatives informed Star News on the 31st, “It is true that Tony An will be joining a group for the first time in 8 years, however, it is still in the works and therefore we are unable to reveal any of the details on this new project.”

When Star News asked if it has anything to do with a possible H.O.T reunion, the source replied that it was not.

The singer wrote via his official Twitter page the same day, “Surprise! I’m going to be promoting in a group for the first time in 8 years~ Wow how long has it been? We are working out, practicing, and recording together every day. Please look forward to a new us. D-31.”

Tony also previously wrote earlier this month, “New song release in early March! I will show you a whole new side of myself with this new song that I have yet to show you before.”

Tony An debuted in 1996 with the legendary old-school group, H.O.T. When the group disbanded in 2001, he and fellow members Jang Woo Hyuk and Lee Jae Won created jtL and promoted together until 2004. After jtL, he has been promoting as a solo singer ever since.

Singer Se7en recently updated his fans on his whereabouts.

The singer shared the above photo via his official Twitter page on January 24th and wrote, “Currently filming a Japanese broadcast program! “Somebody Else“.”

Fans took note of Se7en’s clean-cut black and white stage ensemble and his sharp facial features that give him his classic youthful appearance.

Netizens who saw the photos remarked, “Please update us on your whereabouts more often!”, “Taking selca photos before your performance… Confident much?”, “You become younger by the day“, and more.

120124 AKB48 draws 4,000 fans to ‘AKB Unit Festival’

On January 23rd, idol group AKB48 held an event titled, ‘AKB Unit Festival’, at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Bunkyo, Tokyo.

This festival is like an extra concert to their four-day event, ‘Request Hour Set List Best 100’, which ended just recently on the 22nd. This festival featured AKB48 sub-units Watarirouka Hashiritai 7, No Sleeves, and French Kiss as well as five soloists such as Maeda Atsuko (20) and Itano Tomomi (20).

2012 marked the very first ‘AKB Unit Festival’, and only 28 performers appeared on the first stage. Not yet’s Oshima Yuko (23) commented, “I was surprised at how little people [there] were on the stage.”

Fellow Not yet member Sashihara Rino (19) performed her solo debut song, “Sore Demo Suki Dayo”, which will be released this Spring. Afterwards, DiVA’s Akimoto Sayaka (23) revealed to their fans that, “[Sashihara] was extremely nervous backstage.” Sashihara admitted, “Bull’s eye~ I seriously wanted to run away!”

In addition to these sub-unit performances and solo stages, six members of AKB48 came out as ‘Selection 6‘ and performed “Sweet & Bitter“, the coupling song to their upcoming single, “GIVE ME FIVE!”.
Approximately 4,000 people attended the event.

After months of media buzz, ‘The Wonder Girls‘ movie finally rolled out its red carpet on January 20th at the CGV Cinemas in Los Angeles.

Stars like The School Gyrls, Nick Cannon, Booboo Stewart (from the Twilight Saga), Colette Carrand LEGACI stood alongside J.Y. Park and the Wonder Girls to attend the sneak peek premiere of the special one-hour Teen Nick film.

The girls were also interviewed by leading Hollywood entertainment news authority, E! News, where the members talked about things to look forward to in the movie and their experience filming the movie overall.

Q: In this album, there are many songs about sad love. What is your ideal love?

A: …….

Q: Oh, you’re suddenly quiet (laughs). Do you find talking about relationships annoying?

A: No, that’s not the case. I’m an adult man, so I would like of course a happy relationship. Dont people around us all not want a sad relationship?

Q: Of course. But in ‘Somebody Else’, the protagonist cannot tell the other person his heart and regrets it. Are you someone who speaks your heart?

A: Ah, i dont know. Depending on the situation at that point in time.. (Suddenly becomes tense) Somebody Else is not about me but about fans who have come to like somebody else, telling them “Careful! Something is going to happen! Danger!” (laughs)

Q: (laughs) You dont lie about your own heart right?

A: (laughs) Sometimes I do

Q: So they are white lies, considering the other person right? Do you also lie with bad intentions? [like opposite of white lies]

A: Both types of lies (laughs) represents my true heart (laughs)

Q: Se7en ssi is an interesting person

A: No, I’m a cool person!

Q: For sure, you’re cool

A: Sorry, that was over the top. I am really very sorry.

Q: No, what I meant was that I totally agreed with you ‘cause it’s so true. Especially when you perform, you give off certain aura/charisma as if you are almost unapproachable, in a good sense [of, course]. However, once you [start] talking, all of a sudden you become a really friendly and funny guy—somebody we are easily approachable, don’t you?

A: That’s the problem (laughs)

Q: Oh? What do you mean?

A: I sing and dance in a cool way but then when I start talking, I become comical (laughs)

Q: But i think that is Se7en’s attraction

A: But that is only in Japan. In Korea, I talk in a mature and cool way but in Japan, I suddenly become a primary school kid (laughs). Because the words I use and the tone I speak in sounds like a child’s, I have no choice.

Q: So the Se7en in Japan is not the real Se7en

A: No, to be honest, the Se7en in Japan is my real personality. I want to be funny and the fact that what I say can make people laugh is great.

Q: When you talk, it feels as if you’re talking to fans and everyone

A: I believe that’s the attraction in live. I would like to communicate with fans and people who I have not been able to meet. When I sing, I am also not just singing by myself but with everyone. I want to share more heart.

Q: So its going to be the YG concert soon. It’s been nearly 5 years for you.

A: I am and everyone is really looking forward to it. Because there are interesting performances and collaborations by YG family that have never been seen before, I hope everyone is looking forward to it.

Q: Everyone in the YG family is famous for getting along with each other like real siblings. Did you give your younger siblings any advice on coming to Japan?

A: If i’m at the office and a member from Big Bang or 2ne1 ask me or want to discuss with me, I do [talk to them]

Q: Coming to Japan after a long time, is there any Japanese food that you want to eat?

A: COCO ICHIBAN’s BARIBARI Curry chicken 200g [size], spiciness level 3. Boy, I mussed it so much. (laugh) I finally ate it just the day before yesterday

Q: What other Japanese food do you like?

A: As long as it’s yummy, whether it’s Japanese food or Korean food I like it. I eat alot.

Q: Do you cook yourself?

A: Not really…. if it’s there, then I will make it. I can cook well! But when I was in the US, everyday I would make sandwiches or stew. But because I find it troublesome to clean up afterwards, I dont make it anymore (laughs)

Q: So, what are you really into now?

A: Maybe golf? Lately I really like it and I’m really into it

Q: What is your best score?

A: That’s a secret (laughs). Even just being at the golf course is good because the air is fresh and I can recharge myself. The walking is healthy, I enjoy playing and the food I eat afterwards is yummy (laughs)

Q: Lastly, what are your goals for this year?

A: Commemorating my return to Japan, I want to perform live as a solo artist, and I want to meet my Japanese fans and everyone! I want to make my songs explosive with this in my heart this year!

Korean lesson~ today we learn about the lunar new year in Korea. First of all, the Korean word for lunar new year ‘Seollal’ – it seems it is better to pronounce it with the tongue at the back of the mouth. Because this year’s Seollal is on the 23rd January, and is connected to the weekend, there are many people who started making their way back to their hometown in Korea from yesterday already. Special Korean style bows are made to Grandpa and Grandma and money is given to children. This is similar to how it is in Japan

I met with Se7en last night and had a enjoyable live show together with Takahashi Ai. Even though it was the first time I have met him, he was someone with alot of passion. He is someone who may never feel satisfied for his whole life. As a singer, as a actor, he always has a heart which wants to achieve more. I could see fireworks from his eyes. Even though his appearance is pleasant, he is someone with a fiery heart. He started his activities in Japan again officially with the release of his mini album Somebody else yesterday for the first time in 4 years. Somebody Else has fast songs, dance tracks, ballads and shows Se7en’s different attractions. You can also see dance which you have never seen before in the DVD. I really hope we can see the stage performance.

Q: You have released new album “Somebody Else” in Japan after about 4 years. There should be lots of fans and people waiting for you.
A: I have also been waiting for this moment! My thankful heart for everyone who waited for me for so long has been put into each and every song and I think this album shows the Se7en that I am now.

Q: Over these 4 years, you lived and faced many challenges in the US.
A: In the US, because it was the first time I was alone, there were times when I felt lonely. But because I was able to think about various things, learn dance and song, as well as upgrade myself in terms of an artist and as a person, I think I spent some quality time there.

Q: So were there not times when you were homesick and thought that you wanted to go home?
A: Of course there were (laughs)

Q: At such times, how did you overcome it?
A: I slept (laughs). Usually, I am not the type of person who worries alot or has dilemmas.

Q: So you’re optimistic.
A: But right after I got to the US, although I was enjoying spending time by myself, I didnt know anyone there and that’s why I felt loneliness. Actually there were times when I became weak [mentally]

Q: Just like the lyrics to Somebody Else, did you ring or discuss with your friends in Korea?
A: No I didnt. I have always been the type of person that solves his own problems. I usually find places to go, or I’m moving about. I dont just sit around and do nothing. Thanks to that, I now many friends over there and also in Japan. Just yesterday I met up with a friend.

Q: I see. So can we say that Somebody Else is an album which sums up how Se7en has been over the past 4 years?
A: Out of 50 songs, I chose the songs which were right for me and also showed the various sides of Se7en.

Q: It’s been so long since you’ve recorded in Japanese, did you experience any difficulties?
A: It was okay (laughs). Although I had forgotten quite a bit of my Japanese, it came back naturally while I was singing [in Japanese]. Especially for Somebody Else, it has a bright sound and fast tempo, but its lyrics in contrast were sad. I was thrown off at the beginning but in actual fast, this contrast made it very interesting

Q: ‘Angel’ was released last year on 9th November as a digital single and revealed in advance at your fan meeting, creating a good atmosphere.
A: ‘Angel’ is a song which was released on my birthday and used it as a metaphor describing my fans. It was a present to everyone who waited for me to come back. Although it was the first song I sang in Japanese in 4 years, it didnt feel not right and recording went smoothly.

Q: And I would like to say that the masterpiece of this album is ‘Understand’
A: I love it too! I think that both melody and the lyrics are excellent!

Q: The intro already makes you want to cry and your voice makes the song even sadder.
A: I cried as well when I recorded the song. Because it’s important to express the sadness in this song, I dont think I sang it well, but just that I expressed honestly what I felt. In order not to let the emotions in the song to be overwhelming, I recorded it in one go, with the same voice.

Q: So that’s why the sadness was delivered well
A: I like emotional ballads and listening to them myself. Although of course I like dance songs as well, in contrast to dance tracks where I’m trying to show my ability, I like ballads because you can immerse yourself into the song.

Q: Through ballads, we get to appreciate Se7en attraction as a singer as well as enjoy the song. So dance tracks Better Together and I’m going crazy are included too.
A: Although these two songs were released in Korea last year, because there were requests from fans and others that they wanted to hear the songs in Japanese, they’ve been included with Japanese lyrics. Earlier today, we reported on 2NE1, Big Bang, and Se7en‘s Lunar New Year greetings. Se7en later thanked fans for their support on his me2day. On January 23rd, Se7en posted,

“YG fam 15th Anniversary Concert!! We safely finished the 7 concerts. Thank you so much to the fans that cheered for us!!! Please anticipate Se7en’s new album!!! This picture is from our Osaka concert. Se-Se7en and T O P!! I’m out!!!“

It’s been reported that Koda Kumi has canceled her appearance for the “Ontama Carnival 2012“.
Koda left a post on the event’s official website, explaining, “Ever since I fell ill at the end of the year, I’ve caused everyone to worry, and so I’ve faced each day dealing with my body. Since the beginning of the new year, I’ve made thorough discussions with the doctor, and he’s continued to check the progress of my condition. Due to the doctor’s judgement, I will be canceling my appearance on this year’s ‘Ontama Carnival’.”

Koda was forced to cancel her appearance from “MUSIC FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE” on December 24th due to poor health. However, the singer rallied herself to gave a lively performance on the “62nd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen“.

On the 9th January, one day after the YG concert in Japan, he had a whole day of TV, radio, newspaper etc schedules in Osaka. It had been some time since his last location shoot and his response was “Oh, it’s been so long since i’ve done this” Seems like it was a refreshing experience for him

- It was the first fan meeting after a long time, 4 years, and i felt good. Japanese fans treated me warmly so i was very happy

- When I lived in the US, it was the first time I lived by myself. I studied a new language and culture in a new country away from my family and friends. It felt like I was studying abroad? (laughs) Because it was different in how you dealt with people in the US compared to Korea, it was hard until I actually got used to it, but it was a good opportunity for me to be able to study a new culture.

-(Question was related to US single ‘Girls’) Producing songs with super producers and artists in itself was a big lesson. I think I learnt how to express myself a bit more freely and in a more varied way. Recording here didnt feel like work to me because rather than treating it as ‘work’, they made it more like play and the environment more free.

- I thought they were so great that they could work on such things in such a relaxed way. For me it was a very meaningful 2 years. Although I left my korean, Japanese and other fans waiting for so long, and I felt so sorry to them, but I think it was good to gain more experience when you are young.

- I think I became an adult (laughs). Although I learnt a new culture and language, I also learnt how I should express myself in my music. I was able to learn alot.

Special interview part 2

- (Sorry not sure what the question meant, just know it’s something about Somebody else and growing up) That’s right! It wasnt the Se7en from before but the new Se7en who spent time in the US and upgraded almost to ‘Eight’ (laughs). I got upgraded there

- (Q: It seems that you are now even able to express the nuances in Japanese through your songs) This album i wrote lyrics too~ [I think that's what he said!] ‘I’m going crazy’ and ‘Better Together’ were songs from the ‘Digital Bounce’ album from Korea last year. Because the songs are good, Japanese lyrics were written for these songs with the intention of giving everyone a gift.

-(About Angel, Somebody Else, Understand) These 3 songs were new songs made for Japanese fans. ‘Understand’ is one song that I really like. Because the 3 songs are all of different styles, I think it will be interesting because you will be able to feel different styles and different Se7ens.

- (About ‘Understand’) I worked hard. It seems like I turned into an adult? (laughs) Because the lyrics are good, when I recorded the song, it was not hard to express the emotion in the song. - (About the lyrics of the upcoming mini album but not sure exact question) Yes, that’s how the lyrics are like. For example for the song “Somebody else”, even though the melody is bright, the lyrics are sad. Even though it’s hard to explain, I sang it with the thought of helping the people who are in such situations as the lyrics in the song, to heal and become healthy. The song has this message “This person doesnt have to like me, but can like someone else too”. haha i just thought of this now

- Yes, it’s to show how I have changed and how Se7en’s music has changed. I want to hurry and get close to everyone through events and concerts. I want everyone who waited for me for a long time to know my thankful heart. I will be coming out in front of everyone. Q: So you are resuming activities in Japan after 4 years. Hallyu Pia will report it but, you performed live on the 6th November at Akasaka Blitz

A: Because it was the first performance in Japan for a long time, I really enjoyed it. I thank everyone who waited 4 years for me and my heart is filled with gratitude.

Q: The opening song was your debut Japanese song ‘Hikari’. The last song was se7en’s representative song ‘Passion’. Your song choice was quite cunning [??smart?]

A: Because Hikari is my debut song, it is the first song I think of. You missed it right? I missed it too

Q: During this live performance, you revealed the song ‘Angel’ which will be part of your upcoming mini album ‘Somebody else’ to be released on the 18th January. When I heard the song, I felt that the lyrics reflected your thoughts.

A: Because it really has been a long time since I’ve had activities in Japan, I wanted to give my fans a gift and so I chose this song. I’m comparing my fans to angels. Although I sang the song with gratitude, did I deliver my message across? Because it’s the first time I sang the song, it’s a song that everyone didnt know. So rather than enjoying the song, I think many fans concentrated on the lyrics and the melody.

Q: On the 3rd and 4th of December, you performed at the YG family concert in Seoul. When you performed with TOP, you kissed him.

A: hmmm, well…it wasnt bad (laughs)

Q: Big bang’s Seungri copied your whole outfit you used for your debut song “Come back to me”. How did you find it?

A: It’s a song from 2003. Many memories from when I debuted came back to me. Because I was 18 then, I was young and fresh.

Q: So you’ve become an adult now.

A: I’m still a long way off.

Q: For ‘Passion’, you performed with Jinusean

A: It was a joint stage with sunbaes who I like who I havent performed with for a long time. It was a first performance for Jinusean after 4 years. They have the most experience but they were also the most nervous. “What to do? What to do? What should I say? I cant talk because i’m nervous, you talk!” (laughs)

Q: So this is the attractiveness of the YG family concert.

A: Everyone within YG family has a good relationship with each other. It’s hard to get so many good artists together making good music. Because everyone from the company gathered together, we gave each other strength. With so many singers working together, it was alot of fun. The people performing had fun and the ones watching also had fun.

Q: In January 2012, the YG concert will be held in osaka and Saitama. Have you guys prepared something special?

A: ho ho ho, it’s a secret (laughs). Buy a ticket and come watch! You will if you come!

Q: As a performer, what would you say the attraction of the YG family concert would be?

A: The different performance that we will show you – the joint performances, what we havent shown before.

Q: To you, what is ‘YG family’ to you?

A: It really seems like my family. The relationships between the guys are really great. A family which has gathered because of music.

Q: This is the 15th anniversary of YG entertainment, did Mr Yang Hyun Suk say anything?

A: Although he didnt say anything, I feel that he is always watching over us. It’s as if he’s saying “I’m glad everyone grew up here”

Q: You will be releasing a new album ‘Somebody Else’ on the 18th January, please say something to your fans

A: Thank you to my Japanese fans who have waited for me til now. Since ‘Somebody Else’ is an album which I have made after a long time, I really put alot of work into it. Then the DJ asked him about his experience in the US and he said that he had to learn to live by himself and had to consider many things. He felt alot of things that he had never felt and that overall it was a good experience. He did feel lonely though but because it was his dream, and he got to work with many outstanding people.

In the US, he felt that people were more laid back and relaxed. People thought mroe freely and work did not seem like work, but rather it felt he was playing. It was fun and it had a ‘hip hop feel’ to it. He learnt many things through this experience and it helped him grow.

About other countries that he wants to visit, he says he wants to go to Vietnam because he hasnt been there and also the Philippines.

For the song he was to introduce, he picked 1tym’s One Love. The song is from 1998 and a bit old but he still likes it alot. He watched alot of 1tym’s performances when he was younger and Teddy nowadays writes lots of songs for him as well as the rest of YG. One Love was the first song that Teddy wrote.

Dongwookie says he hasnt set himself any goals for 2012 yet, he likes to concentrate on doing different things as the same time. He will be releasing albums in Japan and Korea this year. He thanks his fans for waiting for him for 4 years and wants to be able to meet them up close.

The DJ asks where he learnt his Japanese and he says he didnt learn it [LOL] but picked up lines from watching TV and talking to people and slowly got better at it.

He introduced Somebody else and said [jokingly] that the song is for his fans because he hasnt seen them for 4 years. That after 4 years, some have left him for somebody else. He says laughing, watch out lucky se7en, dont change your heart, I wont forgive you! haha

After Somebody else was played, he used more of the chinese phrases he knew, like “I like it!” and “Hello i’m se7en, nice to meet you.”

Yoshiki, the classically trained multi-instrumentalist and leader of one of Japan’s most successful rock groups, X-Japan, will compose the theme for this year’s Golden Globe Awards show. The announcement was made by Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Dr.Aida Takla-O’Reilly and dick clark productions executive Barry Adelman.

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards airs on Sunday, January 15, 2012, around the world and live coast-to-coast on NBC with the pre-show from 4:00-5:00p.m. (PST)/7:00-8:00p.m. (EST), and main telecast from 5:00-8:00 (PST)/8:00pm-11:00p.m., (EST), hosted by Ricky Gervais from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “Yoshiki is a world-renowned musician and composer of enormous talent and versatility, who in addition to being a rock superstar has composed for film and television,” said Dr. Takla-O’Reilly. “As an international organization dedicated to creative achievements, the HFPA is delighted to have a global musical artist of Yoshiki’s stature create the theme for the show.”

Added Adelman, “We look forward to incorporating Yoshiki’s music into the production of the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards.”

“The Golden Globe Awards are extremely prestigious, but the show is also edgy,” said Yoshiki, who attended the awards presentation for the first time last year. “I’m a classical pianist and a rock drummer, so it was natural to create something beautiful that also has an edge.”
Yoshiki, considered Asia’s most influential music artist and biggest rock icon, is also a songwriter, drummer, and a classically-trained pianist. His rock group X Japan has sold 30-million singles and albums combined and filled the 55,000-seat Toyko Dome a record 18 times. Now the band’s popularity is spreading throughout the world, having recently completed a sold-out World Tour, performing in North America, Europe, Latin America, and South East Asia. In 1999, Yoshiki composed a piano concerto and performed it with a 77-piece orchestra to celebrate the tenth year of the Emperor of Japan’s reign. In 2005, Yoshiki composed the theme song and conducted the Super World Orchestra at the opening ceremony of the World Expo. Previously, Yoshiki also recorded a classical album co-produced and arranged by acclaimed Beatles producer Sir George Martin and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Recently, the legendary Stan Lee created a Super Hero based on him, and for the first time, a Hello Kitty product line is named after a person – “Yoshikitty.”
